Try to live my life, wanna hide my fears/ Learning wrong from right, gotta wipe those tears, hold up, hold on/ On the up and up, why you hold that badge/ Tell me, where you was, when the world went mad? Hold up, Hold on/ Why you even act surprised? Hard enough stay alive, oh-oh/ Cover up the tracks with lies, double down, never recognize, oh-oh/ Bussin’ back, I’m blacking, ‘bout shoot-shoot Never satisfied, you find me hanging out the roof, who? Banging, that’s the truth, too crazy/ bout to lose screws, baby, got me thinking we still have a lot to do, true-true/ Deading it, then hop inside/ I’m ready, get to popping, knife/ Could never cut the tension, what you mention more than ill-advised/ power pushing evil to the people, watch ‘em run and hide/ To Look at your supremacy, the reason I’ll forever ride/ treat em less than human/ Pistol whipping, how you doing? Got me trippin, now I’m tippin, what a lovely way to ruin/ Lullaby yo ass to sleep/ Another trick inside my sleeve/ How many more of us should die before we show it isn’t sweet/

You out here losing control You stay up late getting throwed You put that coke in your nose You wasted time You out here losing control You wake up later you know You ain’t got nothing to show You wasted time For a little bit of mild entertainment We’ll be in and out of sticky situations Ripping up the pages Tripping over pavement Manic and complacent Jaded I been tainted Neck deep In abrasions Turning all my days Into nights in the basement I’m so anxious No matter what the case is I’m still roundin’ bases Every time that the bass hits Damn- There's a reckless inconsistency we play with I’m just tryna make the songs that’s on your playlist I’ve been drawn to all the shapes upon your pages give you my time you go and waste it You out here losing control You stay up late getting throwed You put that coke in your nose You wasted time You out here losing control You wake up later you know you ain’t got nothing to show You wasted time

about

This album is called LFT:RT for many reasons. Ultimately it’s to call attention to how binary thinking is destroying us individually and collectively. The first thing you may think about is our two-party system. We see all around us the destruction that this binary causes. We are tricked into thinking we have only two options that will deliver us salvation when both do not represent or lift up the voices of the masses. Living in the gender binary inhibits our own exploration and is used to discriminate against non-binary people. Why do we believe two genders can encompass the complexities of billions of people? We live in an Either/Or not Both/And world. I began to see destructive binaries in my own creativity. I thought I needed to live in this genre or that. I say I’m left-handed yet I am quite ambidextrous. Through making this album, I embraced my multi-instrumentalist self and realized my drumming was not left or right-handed, but a circle. What I played and the ideas that came with seeing my hands as a continuous part of one body, was significant. What other significant shifts can we make as individuals and collectively that will move us from thinking in binary terms so that we might be left right, continuous, and healed?

All of the co-writers on this album either live in Portland currently or were living here for some time. This album highlights what Portland sounded like right before and during the first five months of the pandemic and how we can still make compelling and expressive music without being in the same room. Even though there is no replacing the experience of musicians’ energy interconnecting in space, we used the various
technologies we had and made a really cool album. It was mostly just email! Thank you to all the musicians who contributed sounds and melodies. I hope you can appreciate all the detail that's in the music.
